IMG_2166About Merryl’s Mosaics

Merryls Mosaics is a business, born out of a passion for colour, glass, mosaic art, interior design and the desire to help people create mosaic artwork and glass art as an expression of self.

In October 2007, I had a life change and saw it as an opportunity to re-invent my life and do what I really wanted to do. I became interested in mosaics and colour around 1998 and started making mosaics as a hobby around then. I found it incredibly therapeutic, uplifting and it got my creative juices flowing and it made me feel happy (during a time when life was difficult). I discovered that mosaicing is truly a wonderful medium because you dont need to be artistic to create an object of beauty, plus it makes you feel good about yourself.

So in early 2008 I set up a mosaic gallery (on a short-term trial basis) and began making mosaics for sale. I discovered during that period that many, many people wanted to learn to make mosaics. My background in training and development (I had a management consultancy for 20 years and have a post graduate in Human Resources), together with my business experience and mosaic skills and knowledge I had acquired, put me in a good position to open a mosaic studio. Furthermore, I had met my very good childhood friend (who now lives in Israel) in Prague in 2008, and she discussed the therapeutic nature of her womens group (she is a dance therapist and has a group that has been meeting for 10 years who, through movement and bonding as a group, have a therapeutic experience). She convinced me that I should start a womens mosaicing group. So in January 2009 I started running mosaic workshops. The result has been amazing:

– People are making absolutely magnificent pieces of art;

– Coming to make mosaics has a very therapeutic nature and many of my clients call their mosaicing session the cheapest therapy they ever had;

– My studio is a positive, happy and inspiring place and my clients feel good and look forward to coming.

I have since introduced several facets to my business including Parties for adults and children, Holiday Programs, Team Building Workshops, Glass fusing and slumping and Jewellery making. When Covid19 struck I spent the first 3 months converting my products into DIY Kits and now have a great range of Mosaic and Craft Kits which we sell on-line. My journey has been humbling and gratifying and I thank G-d that I took the chance to change directions and do what I wanted to do. I LOVE MY JOB AND I LOVE GOING TO WORK EVERY DAY.

About Merryl

Merryl Sacher, the founder of Merryl’s Mosaics, decided it was time to follow her passion, and to convert her mosaic-making hobby and love for glass,  interior design and colour into her career.

Merryl was born in South Africa and educated at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg where she completed a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) followed by a post-graduate Higher Diploma in Personnel Management. This course was made up of Training & Development, Human Resources, Industrial Relations and Business Management.  She has been accredited with a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment and is a Microsoft Certified Trainer.

In 1989 she emigrated to Israel where she lived for 2 years, prior to coming to live in Melbourne, Australia. For 18 years she managed and built up a management consultancy. In 1997 she built her first home, and it was then she discovered her love and flair for interior design and colour. She entered her house into the Home Beautiful Home of the Year competition in 1999, where she won the Victorian Home of the Year. She subsequently studied and qualified in Interior Design at RMIT. Merryl began making mosaics as a hobby in the late 1990’s. She began selling her work in select galleries, and in 2008 set up Merryls Mosaics as a medium to promote her unique services. As a response to customer demand, she began running Mosaic Workshops.

Merryl’s Mosaics has since expanded into a Mosaic and Glass Fusing Studio. She runs workshops for adults and children, hosts adult and children parties and Team Building Workshops, runs Holiday Programs, sells mosaic glass and runs glass fusing and slumping workshops. Her range of products have been converted into DIY Mosaic and Craft Kits which she now sells on-line. She also makes mosaics and glass fusing pieces for sale.  She hosts occasional exhibitions to showcase her and her students work.

My studio, which I have redesigned to work as both gallery and working studio, is  located at 723 Glenhuntly Road, Caulfield VIC 3162. Pop in and see some current pieces or see me and/or my students at work.
